Penile Cancer, Causes, Symptoms And Treatment
Penile cancer is a type of cancer that occurs on the skin of the penis or within the penis. It is rare in the United States and most commonly affects men over the age of 50.
If you are at risk then finding it before is critical. It can develop anywhere on the skin of the penis but is most common under the foreskin in men.
Carcinoma in situ (CIS) – is also a type of squamous cell cancer where only the cells in the skin of the penis are affected, and it hasn't spread more profound in the skin
Adenocarcinoma is cancers that develop in the epithelial cells of the penis that produce sweat in the skin.
Melanoma of the penis – this is where cancer develops in the skin cells that give the skin its color. Although melanomas usually grow in areas that are open in the sun.
Sarcoma cancers that start in the body’s connective tissues that form the structure of the body. Such as bone, muscle, and cartilage. Sarcomas of the penis are rare. But they tend to grow more quickly than other types of penile cancer.
Basal cell cancer develops from basal cells found in the deepest layer of the skin. They start mostly in areas exposed to the sun but can grow in other places. This type of penile cancer is very slow growing and very rarely spreads to other parts of the body.
